When we’re considering a potential hire at Tier One Technology Partners, we give them an opportunity to experience our company culture. This is as much for us, as it is for them because if they’re hired, 75% of their work will involve people skills, and 25% technology. The strategic foundation at Tier One is providing remarkable service to our clients, and to do this we need employees with remarkable customer service and people skills.
David Shaffer, President at Tier One, remarks:
“People tend to think that we work with technology; well, that is true, but what we really do is work with people. That’s our culture.”
We try to hire based on attitude and continue to train on aptitude. So it’s important for us to determine early on if an individual is naturally aligned with our values and culture. Because Tier One has clearly defined values, it’s easier for us to attract potential employees whose personal values are in alignment with ours. This way we know they can commit to our values and assimilate into our company culture.
Our Company Culture
Although we’re all about people, we ensure our technology professionals have the skills and knowledge needed to turn a client’s IT investments into a powerful business advantage. At Tier One we always strive to elevate our level of service; this is a distinguishing characteristic of our culture.
As a leader in the Maryland business community, Tier One’s attitude is that the client always comes first. We know the importance of delivering remarkable client service and this is demonstrated by a sign that we prominently display in our office reading: “Remarkable Client Service Is An Expectation…Not a Gift!”
In addition, Tier One believes in the importance of working as a team. We inspire our staff to develop positive working relationships and take the time to get to know one another, and each other’s families and partners. We collaborate and share knowledge, as well as encouragement. We have an extremely low turnover rate, which is a significant differentiator for Tier One. And, we have fun! This is because we love what we do and we care about one another and our clients.
Our Hiring Process
When hiring we also consider a person’s ability to deliver the remarkable client service that Tier One is known for. We place a lot of emphasis on self-skills. We look for passion and initiative within our potential employees, and we try to hire from referrals as often as possible. Potential candidates must possess the ability to treat our clients with the dignity and respect that they deserve. New employees work with other members of our team to ensure they have what it takes personally and technically to represent us well.
When interviewing we like to invite the candidate’s significant other to attend a lunch or dinner so we can speak to them directly and let them experience our leadership and vision. . Doing this has been invaluable to our company.
Within a 90-day period, we’re able to determine whether a new hire possesses the qualities and skills necessary to continue as a Tier One employee. When we hire a new employee, we expect them to comply with our value statement, which is to be honest in our recommendations and assessments for clients.
Our Clients’ IT Partner
Tier One acts as our clients’ IT Partner and trusted technology advisor. We provide the information, guidance, and hands-on experience that our clients need to achieve their business goals.
